It’s Science: Rodolpho Vieira
We have a saying at our home academy, when someone receives an epic beating we would say that person got “Rodolpho’d”. After spending hours compiling the numbers in 15 randomly selected matches, it’s easy to see why this description is accurate. There are few competitors that appear to physically overwhelm their opponents the way Rodolfo does.
The other great thing about Rodolpho Vieira is that his matches are never boring. He pushes a furious pace that few can keep up with. This usually leads to a quick submission for Mr.Vieira. You’ll notice in the spreadsheet below that he did win one match by DQ. While this is a rarity, after watching a lot of tape on Vieira, I’ve come to the conclusion that getting DQ’d is getting off easy!
We did a micro-evaluation, similar to what we provide for competitors, that broke down 15 of Rodolpho’s matches over the past 3 years. We have only included techniques and information below that was recorded and observed in the matches we viewed. 15 matches is more than enough for an acceptable sample in this case.
Notable Stats:
- He scored first in 13 out of 14 of the matches that he won in the study
- His average match length was approximately 5:42
- 66% of his matches we observed were won by submission
- 88% of his passes observed in the review were conducted from a standing position
- Of That 88%, the majority of those passes were Leg Drag’s or Deflection-style passes
- The majority of his submissions came from the back position
- The armbar was his submission of choice
